Here’s where it gets fun: Operation Thundergun Express (yes that’s the real name), a part of Resolute Sentinel 23, marked the Space Force’s first involvement in such a South American exercise.
Members of the 16th Electromagnetic Warfare Squadron worked with Ecuadorian and Colombian air forces to build mobile space detection systems in Colombia, with command and control based in Lima, Peru. This operation was described as “the first-ever defensive space control operation in U.S. Southern Command history”.
Resolute Sentinel 23 included an operation named HARPY SUR, which focused on international space collaboration. This operation followed an agreement between USSPACECOM, the Peruvian Aerospace Research and Development Center (CONIDA), and the Peruvian Air Force to share space situational awareness.
